In this talk, Professor Andrew K. Sweetman will share details of the discovery of dark oxygen production at the abyssal seafloor of the Clarion–Clipperton zone (CCZ), a process that challenges traditional assumptions about oxygen cycling in deep-sea environments. He will also provide several items of evidence for it and discuss the results in the context of what they mean for seabed mining activities.
